VANESSA FRAMPTON
SOPRANO
ABOUT
Vanessa Frampton grew up in Sheffield and began her studies with Dr Vivien Pike as a young singer and chorister at Sheffield Cathedral. In 2012 she was a finalist in the BBC Young Chorister of the Year which was a crucial moment for her, inspiring her to continue with her singing.
After successfully completing her undergraduate degree in Music in 2016, she studied with Wendy Eathorne and Helen Yorke at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance for a masters in vocal performance. Whilst at Trinity, she performed in student opera productions. She has played Papagena in 'Cosi fan Tutte' by Mozart, Venus in Iphiegenie en Aulide by Gluck, and the Sorceress in Hippolyte et Aricie by Rameau. Other notable performances include the lead role of Miss Tiny in Paul Bunyan by Britten, soprano soloist for Mass in Blue at Binham Priory...
Vanessa has a great passion for baroque and early music. This was most evident in her recital at the end of her first year in which she sang arias from Bach's St John and St Matthew's Passion. Her repertoire also includes Strauss, Wolf, Debussy and Britten.
Collaborating with new composers is another of her interests. Vanessa premiered a new composition for piano trio (piano, voice and cello) by composer John Sturt 'Birds at Winter Nightfall'. Working in small ensembles on projects such as these was rewarding. She is inspired by sopranos such as Rene Fleming, Kathleen Battle, Cecilia Bartoli, Barbara Bonney, and Barbara Hannigan.
